The Salon d'Artiste is both a place and an idea . . .
Two undeniable strains in the history of art in the world converge in the concept of Salon d'Artiste, a return to the old-world support of the arts through patronage and exposure at the Palace Ione in the Texas Hill Country.
First, Salon d'Artiste is inspired by the Salon Society of Montmartre in the early 1900s -- providing a place f0r artists to exhibit, to discuss, to converse, to meet their supporters and to gain audience for their work. Salon d'Artiste also echoes the practices of the Italian Renaissance and the Medici family who were patrons of artists, sculptors, writers and scholars.
Here, galleries provide ample housing for private family collections of art and antiques from Colonial Mexico and Imperial Prussia, as well as collections of traditional/contemporary folk art and contemporary work of artists of the Texas Hill Country. Special events and openings for invited audiences will present the work of young and emerging artists and musicians, as well as the work of established artists of the region -- a unique showcase for creativity.
Upstairs, apartment/studios provide living and working space for artists-, writers- and scholars-in-residence. Those who live here are invited to create a body of work to display or present to a select private audience. Other artists and writers and musicians are invited to apply to use the gallery space and other public areas of Palace Ione for private showings, performances, conferences and workshops, for an appropriate fee.
The purpose of such an ambitious undertaking is the discovery of new talent and to provide a fit setting for existing private family collections and archives.
